My head pounded, my limbs felt heavy. Everything was blurry as I opened my eyes. I was having a migraine like you couldn't believe. I suddenly remembered that I had to run, and I had to run far and as fast as I could.
'Must run, must get away!!' I thought. I tried to sit up but a sharp pain from my arms forced me back down. It felt like fishhooks pulling deeper and deeper into my skin.
"AHHGH!!" I screamed as I forced myself back up but a firm hand pushed me back down.
"No, you must rest. You could have a concussion." A deep voice said above me.
"Optimus?" I whispered. My eyes adjusted to the light to see a a light blue and white hospital room. I could hear a heart monitor beeping beside me. The fishhooks where the I.V drip and a second bag attached to a pole. Ugh, the sight of the needles almost made me faint. I could feel myself pale.
"What?" A man asked. I looked over to my right to see a doctor. I nearly had a heart attack, the quickening beeps in the monitor proved it. He was tall with short black hair. He'd be a spitting image of Optimus' holoform if he didn't have that scar down his cheek, and he was missing Optimus' goatee. He looked younger too, maybe 25. I wished it was Optimus, even though I knew he'd probably gut me like a fish next time I saw him.
"What....what's your name?" I asked hoarsely. I was still trying to recover from the mental shock of waking up in a strange place.
"Baxton. Why?" He asked. I shook my head.
"Never mind. Where am I?" I asked.
"Your in Joseph Hospital. You got hit in the head awful hard. With a steel ladder." Baxton said as he looked through his papers on his clipboard. A steel ladder? Mm, that explains the headache. Baxton then started to shine a light in my eyes and sticks a tongue depressor down my throat. We went through the whole routine. I kept thinking in the back of my mind about how I was going to get home.
"Well, you seem to be OK. So do you remember what your name is? Do you remember where your from?" Baxton asked. I looked at him and sighed.
"The name's Madison. But my friends call me Maddy. The rest is classified information under the United States Government FBI, CIA, the whole bit. All I need is a phone and my necklace and I'll be on my merry way." I said as I pointed to my necklace that was laying on a desk across the room. Baxton looked at me in confusion.
"Whoa, the Government? FBI? What have you done?!" Baxton asked with a twinge of panic. I scratched my knuckles against my chin casually.
"Nothing (that I can talk about) it's what I've seen and the role I play. I need to go, it's super important that I get to Jasper. By the way, what's the date?" I asked. Baxton stared at me for a minute and the shook his head.
"January 6, 2013." He said. I sighed. Two and a half weeks since I've been gone. My family would be frantic, Optimus would be....I have no idea what his reaction would be. Baxton walked out of the room quickly without another word. I summoned my courage and carefully pulled out the needles out of my arm (and found a box of Scooby Doo Band Aids) and looked for a pair of decent clothes. I found my old clothes, they had been washed for me. I pulled on my shirt and my blue jeans and grabbed the necklace. I walked over to the window to find I was on the second floor. Great. Now all I have to do is find a way outta here. I used a nearby scalpel to saw through the band. I checked to see if the cost was clear. The nurses and a few doctors where attending to a man who just collapsed onto the white tile. Thank you, random citizen. I closed the door carefully behind me and speed walked down the halls. Hospitals made me nervous. I had a surgery in one when I was little, and all I could remember was screaming. The elevator was up ahead, so was the check out.
'Act casual, act casual.' I thought to myself. As I got closer, the more I got worried. There was a lady behind the counter. She looked almost exactly like June Darby. Long black hair, piercing blue eyes, and the motherly look about her. She looked up at me from behind her desk.
"Hello there, where are you going?" She asked.
"To the gift shop. My sis just had a baby and I wanted to get her a bunny." I said.
"Then why do you have stitches?" She asked, using her pen to point to my forehead. I gingerly felt it and winced slightly. There was a white pad, thankfully, but I could still feel them.
"I hit my head on one of the shelves. I'm a klutz." I said with a chuckle. She narrowed her eyes at me.
"Mm-hmm." She said. The elevator dinged and a mob of people flooded out. I quickly jumped in and hit the close door button. The nurse was yelling for me to get back there right this instant! The elevator moved swiftly and before I knew it, I was on the ground floor. Home and freedom was just a couple feet away. There was a service desk, I could use a phone. I ran up to the clerk.
"Hi! Can I borrow your phone real quick? My mom forgot to tell my dad that my Aunt Selma was going to have surgery today so I need to call him." I said as pleasantly as I could. She handed me the phone and I quickly dialed in the twelve digit code that was Ratchet's line.
"Hello? Who is this?" Ratchet asked snappishly.
"Hiya Doc Bot" I replied with a smirk.
"Madison? Is that you?" He asked as if it where too good to be true.
"Yuppers. Listen I need a pick up at Joseph Hospital down here in Fent, Nevada. Can you manage that?" I said casually.
"I believe I can triangulate your coordinates (Scott, look up Joseph Hospital, Fent, Nevada on that Googly thing..) stay put. I'll send Bumblebee to pick you up." Ratchet said.
"Why not Optimus?" I asked. Where was he?
"He's in Colorado, looking for you." Ratchet said. Huh boy. I sighed before continuing.
"Tell 'em I'm coming. I'll explain everything later. Thanks Ratchet, bye." I said as I hung up the phone. A few minutes later, my necklace started to glow. It did that sometimes when the Ground Bridge activated. I levitated an inch off my chest so I followed it. It lead me out to the parking garage. As I turned inside I was met with a black SUV with tinted windows. I screamed as it screeched to a halt inches from my face. The driver stepped out, it was Baxton and he didn't look happy.
"Oh shit" I said aloud. He marched over to me, now wearing a black sweater with a blazer.
"Madison? What are you doing out here??" Baxton demanded. I scratched the back of my head nervously.
"I, uh, decided to take a walk?" I said with a nervous chuckle. He tapped his foot impatiently and folded his arms over his chest. I could hear a Ground Bridge down in the garage, Bumblebee was here!
"I am leaving. For good. So hasta la bye-bye , your a brilliant doctor, bye!" I said quickly as I turned to walk away. He grabbed my shoulder and spun me back around.
"Nope, I don't think so." He said. There was a loud rev of an engine behind the engine and something clicked.
"GET DOWN!!" I screamed as I tackled him to the ground a few feet away. The SUV exploded in a flash of red. Baxton pushed me off and gaped at what was his ride.
"Your welcome." I grumbled. Something hot and sticky suddenly ran down my head. My stitches had broke. A black and purple car pulled out from behind the now burning SUV.
"Run." I said. Baxton turned to me with wide eyes.
"What?" He asked. I got to my feet quickly and pulled him up.
"RUN, I SAID RUN!!!" I yelled at him. We took off down the street with the Vehicon not far behind. Running hurt in this blasted heat, I could barely breath. Baxton took the lead and pulled us down a long alley.
"Where are we going?!" I yelled at him. He took us down a few twists and turns that must've been the space between the hospital buildings.
"Short cut! We'll be out in no time, he'll never catch us!" Baxton said cunningly. We both slammed into a brick wall. Dead end.
"You idiot" I growled as I hopped to my feet. Baxton was passed out.
"Oh Primus" I whispered. I sat on his chest and started slapping him, trying to get him to come too. The Vehicon drove towards us menacingly. I took a deep breath.
"BUMBLEBEE!!! HELP US!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. With a few beeps Bumblebee jumped down from the roof and onto the Vehicon. He started to rip the roof open when the Vehicon transformed. Bumblebee was keeping the Vehicon at a good distance with his boxing. He finally drove the Decepticon away with his blasters.
"Thanks Bumblebee, I owe ya." I said. Bumblebee nodded to me and beeped. Baxton groaned and started to wake up.
"Transform! Transform!" I whispered urgently. Baxton opened his eyes and sat up, throwing me into the brick wall.
"What happened??" He asked in exasperation. I cuffed the back of his head.
"You lead us into a dead end! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going home." I said with a sniff as I trotted over to Bee. I turned back to Baxton.
"You didn't see anything." I said sternly as I hopped into the passenger seat. Bubmlebee backed out and drove back into the garage and we Ground Bridge back to Base.
****************************************************************
"In all my years, I have never seen something so reckless! Madison you could've been killed!" Ratchet scolded. We where at Base, waiting anxiously for Optimus' return.
"I know. I got scared and I wanted to help.." I said, hanging my head in shame. Ratchet put up an angry servo.
"Don't tell it to me young lady! Tell it to Optimus, who has been worried sick about you!" Ratchet snipped angrily. We where in Optimus' quarters, he wanted a private word with me. Ratchet disappeared out of the room. I sighed. Why was I so stupid?? I was scared. I thought Optimus was gonna die. Heavy footsteps came towards the room. Optimus suddenly manifested in the doorway.
"H-hey Optimus..." I said nervously.
"We need to talk, Madison." Optimus replied ominously as the door shut behind him. His room was huge, fifteen lights illuminated everything. He didn't have much, a few Data Pads over in one corner, his berth in another, and a few weapons on a wall. Optimus sat across from me with a very, very serious expression.
"Optimus, I'm so sorry. I got scared, and I thought that I could help if I tagged along. I didn't think of the consequences and I was wrong to try and pull a stupid stunt like that." I said. I didn't meet his optics.
"Madison," He said slowly "your heart was in the right place. But you could've been killed easily. I understand that you where scared, but you cant run into a battle like that. From now on, I don't want you to leave this Base via Ground Bridge without my permission. Am I understood?" I nodded solemnly. He went on to lecture me for a good hour, I deserved it though. When he was done, it was time for me to go home. There was a massive search going on Smith would be there to help me explain to my parents what had happened. And so would Optimus. We drove though the Ground Bridge and up the driveway in silence. My mom and my dad started crying when we walked into the door. They hugged me and started to kiss me everywhere. I didn't say anything but I gently took their hands and pulled them out to Optimus.
"Mom, dad, I want you to meet my guardian: Optimus Prime." I said as Optimus transformed.
